FAQ

How is TR different from other clubs?

Our schedule, training philosophy, and atmosphere are all very different from the other clubs in the area.  Please read the “about” page and the “tr theory” page for more details.  The bottom line is that TR was founded on the idea that top level training doesn’t have to burn kids and families out!

Where does TR practice?

We have secured a deal through our connections with the University of Toledo to practice out of their brand new Fetterman Gym which is attached to Savage Hall and the new indoor football facility.  We couldn’t be happier about this arrangement and look forward to many years of partnership with our Rocket friends!

How much does TR cost?

The cost for the 2011 season and the training with Maryellen was $1,500.  This price includes everything you need for the season except the nationals fee which is determined by the cost of travel for the coaches and entry fee of the tournament.  It is charged later in the year and last year was $225.  Uniform wise, you get two jerseys and a warm up top included.  If you want more apparel stuff we offer great group prices but none is required.   Price for this year will be similar and final numbers will be available prior to tryouts.

Are there different levels of play at TR?

Nope, all of our teams are national level teams.  They all go through the same training (adjusted for age of course) and play in the same or very similar tournaments.  There are lots of other great clubs around that do the regional and local levels very well and we would strongly encourage you to check them out if that is the way you are leaning.

TR is for families that don’t want to make a big commitment to volleyball right?

Absolutely not!  Different and balanced doesn’t mean less.  If you really look at the total program, the time spent on things to better you as an athlete, player, and person are right in line with the other clubs.  We just believe in a different training schedule that emphasizes different factors in different parts of the year.  No we do not play as many “official” matches as clubs that play 10-15 tournaments per year but we believe that is a good thing!

TR doesn’t play in the OVR, so they don’t play good competition right?

Wake up people!  It’s 2010 and that is a 2000 mindset.  TR plays only JVA/AAU sanctioned tournaments.  Several years ago AAU was certainly not as competitive as USA/OVR but in the past few years there has been a major paradigm shift.  Several of the top clubs in the country broke away from USA Volleyball (of which the OVR is part) to form the JVA.  They broke away because of the sky rocketing costs of qualifiers, lack of representation at the national board level, and overall philosophical differences with USA Volleyball.  The JVA has partnered with the AAU thus making JVA/AAU events extremely attractive.  Anyone who truly knows volleyball in the Midwest knows that playing in JVA events with SPRI, Munciana, KIVA, Team Z, Dunes, Team Indiana, Michigan Elite, Legacy, etc is every bit as and often times more competitive than a lot of USA/OVR events.
